While football is shifting towards becoming a young man’s game more and more as the years go by, they still can’t do without having a few sturdy veterans on their team. The Premier League is known for its physicality and strong play, so they have to know how to position themselves to impact the team.

Having a veteran player is also good for the locker room. A player who has seen it all, done it all, will often have the greatest authority in the locker room and influence on the team. They usually motivate their peers and help younger players develop into future stars. Besides, for us fans, it’s much easier to bet on teams when you know there are players who have a glorious history on the court, and you feel more at ease to use the welcome offers when you sign up on a website.

This year, the Premier League does not lack experience. We have compiled a list of the 10 oldest Premier League players who are still making an impact on their teams.

10. Ben Mee (35 years old) Brentford

Date of Birth: September 21, 1989

Ben Mee has become a staple of Brentford’s defence. A team known for protecting the net and allowing the fewest number of goals in the past few years. Most of it is owed to Ben Mee. He made an impact at Burnley where he played for 10 years. Six of them were in the Premier League. He was even a part of the famed side which qualified for the Europa League during the 2018/19 season.

For the past three years, he has been with Brentford and has become one of the most reliable players in the squad. He might be one of the Premier League’s oldest players now and his playing time has been significantly reduced this season, mostly due to an injury that he suffered last year, he still has the chops to step on the field wherever Thomas Frank requires of him.

9. Neto (35 years old) Arsenal

Date of Birth: July 19, 1989

Neto is one of the more experienced goalkeepers in the Premier League. Having played in Italy (Fiorentina and Juventus) and Spain (Valencia and Barcelona), he breathes in security and experience whenever he stands between the posts. He moved to England during the 2022/23 season and originally joined AFC Bournemouth on loan.

He immediately captured the number one spot which prompted the Cherries to make his move permanent the very next year. However, due to Kepa Arrizabalaga joining this season, he will feature for Arsenal as a reserve keeper. He might be the oldest Premier League player on their squad, but he will without a doubt be ready to step in for David Raya whenever called for.

8. Martin Dúbravka (35 years) Newcastle United

Date of Birth: January 15, 1989

Another goalkeeper of our oldest players in theis Martin Dúbravka. A long-time serving member of Newcastle, having been with the Georides since the 2017/18 season, he now serves as the backup goalkeeper for Nick Pope. He spent a year on a loan at Manchester United. But the Magpies were happy to have him back, and as things stand, the Slovakian international may even retire in Newcastle.

While he hasn’t been featuring regularly ever since the 2021/22 season, when he made 26 appearances, he stepped in when it mattered the most for the Magpies. Last season, during Pope’s absence, he played for 23 games, racking up five clean sheets. While currently appearing only in the EFL Cup, if an opportunity knocks, we might see him more.

7. Seamus Coleman (35 years) Everton

Date of Birth: October 11, 1988

He was one of the best right-backs in the league during his high days. Seamus Coleman, the sturdy Irishman, seems like he doesn’t want to retire. Appearing for Everton since 2009, he has been a loyal servant of the Toffees and a genuine one-club man, racking up 365 appearances for the club.

Even though we are seeing less and less of Coleman on the pitch in recent years, he has been an important member of the squad despite all the coaching changes. When he decides to retire, and we are not pushing him to do so, he will be remembered for his picture-perfect crosses from the right flank and devastating free kicks which allowed him to rack up 22 goals for Everton in the Premier League.

6. Adam Lallana (36 Years) Southampton

Date of Birth: May 10, 1988

Adam Lallana seems like he has seen it all and done it all. Nevertheless, instead of retiring, he came back to Southampton this year to help the newly promoted Saints stay up in the Premier League. During his illustrious career, he also played for Liverpool and Brighton. While most of the Liverpool fans would rather forget the period when he was there, his four years at Brighton actually helped him revive his career.

He felt rejuvenated under both Graham Potter and later Roberto De Zerbi and featured as a utility midfielder. His immense experience helped to influence and develop young players, especially with the Seagulls which are known for producing young talents. If the Saints by some miracle manage to stay in the Prem, we have a feeling that we will be seeing more from Lallana in the coming years.

5. Johnny Evans (36 Years) Manchester United

Date of Birth: January 3, 1988

Just like that, Johnny Evans became one of the oldest current Premier League players. It seemed that it was only yesterday when Sir Alex Ferguson granted him his debut for the Red Devils, under which he spent nine years. He continued with West Brom and Leicester City, establishing himself as a reliable option at the back.

Last year, when help was needed he came back to Old Trafford and he is still a part of the squad. Johnny is a no-nonsense, old-school defender. The likes that we don’t see anymore these days. Evans may be a dying breed of defenders, but he can still pull his weight and even lock up the back line.

4. Jamie Vardy (37 years old) Leicester City

Date of Birth: January 11, 1987

Jamie Vardy is an absolute legend of the sport who has a bonafide underdog story. In 2011 he was playing for Fleetwood Town in the National League. In 2016 he lifted the Premier League title with Leicester and became the Player of the Season. He was also EPL’s Golden Boot winner during the 2019/20 season when he scored 23 goals.

Jamie is now one of the oldest Premier League players at the age of 37. But he is still Fox’s primary number 9 option. Having spent a year away from the Prem, they are now back in England’s top flight. Jamie has already scored two goals in 7 matches played. How long he decides to play is up to him, but we are definitely sure that he is not going anywhere away from Leicester.

3. James Milner (38 years old) Brighton & Hove Albion

Date of Birth: January 4, 1986

At the age of 38, James Milner is not stopping and has continued playing with Brighton, the club that he has been with during the past season. If he continues to appear regularly for the Seagulls, he just might overtake Gareth Barry at the top of the Premier League’s most appearances list, as he currently ranks second.

Milner has actually made the most appearances as a sub in the league. He has also featured in every season between 2002/03 and the current one. These are numbers and records that we can’t see anyone breaking any time soon. Milner has seen it all and done it all. He started with Leeds but also played with Newcastle, Aston Villa, Man City, and Liverpool. It is fascinating to see that he can still play competitive football and has the versatility to make an impact on the field.

2. Ashley Young (39 Years) Everton

Date of Birth: July 9, 1985

It seems that Everton have a knack for keeping ageing players busy. Featuring on the left flank of Sean Dyche’s defence is the legendary Ashley Young. This is his second season with the Toffees which he joined from Aston Villa. However, fans will mostly remember him during his time at Manchester United, where he spent 9 years and won the Premier League and the Europa League.

While he is getting close to 40, it seems that he is not thinking about retirement. Ashley may have lost a bit of his pace. But it is why he was moved back from an offensive role, which he occupied for the better part of his career, to a defensive one. The position suits him and he just may decide to stay there for a few more years. He might even become the oldest Premier League footballer.

1. Lukasz Fabianski (39 years old) West Ham United

Date of Birth: April 18, 1985

At the number one spot of the oldest players in the Premier League is West Ham’s former number one, Lukasz Fabianski. An experienced and reliable goalkeeper, the Polish international has been with the Hammers since 2018. He also featured for Arsenal and Swansea in the Premier League but has made the most impact in East London.

Fabianski only made 10 Premier League appearances and this one only has one this year. He was moved to the role of backup goalkeeper to Alphonse Areola. But he will still feature in the EFL Cup. Goalkeepers usually have longer careers. It still seems that Lukasz Fabiansk could go for a few more, especially in his current role with West Ham.

In an exciting title race encounter between Man City and Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium, the Cityzens managed to save a point thanks to John Stones last-minute equaliser. However, they lost much more than that. They lost their rock, their engine, and their best player, Rodri.

Pep Guardiola recently announced that the injury will separate the Spaniard from the field for the entire season. He actually had meniscus damage prior to the Arsenal game. Unfortunately for him, Rodri’s injury caused him to have to go through ACL surgery which definitely put an end to his season.

So what does all of this mean for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City?

Man City’s Stats With and Without Rodri

With Rodri injured, we can safely say that City have lost their most important player. Sure, Erling Halaand may be getting all the accolades for the goals he scores. But Rodri is the brain of the team who keeps everything together. He is willing to do the dirty work and keeps the team balanced both in the defence and the attack.

Last season, Manchester City lost only three games. You guessed it, Rodri was absent in all three of them. He has amassed 52 consecutive fixtures without a loss before his early exit versus Arsenal.

Rodri played 50 games last season, totalling 4,325 minutes. He was the most consistent player in Pep’s squad and barely missed any matches.

Man City has won 74.1% of their games with Rodri on the field. Contrary, they won only 61.9% of their EPL games without him.

Who is the Best Replacement for Rodri?

With Rodri injury news being made public, there have been immediate talks about his potential replacement. There is no chance that somebody will be able to mirror his output. But Guardiola will be happy if one of his midfielders is able to produce at least half as much as Rodri did.

Mateo Kovacic is the most natural replacement, and for a large part of the season, he has been doing a great job doing so. Alongside him is Rico Lewis, who is not a natural midfielder but somebody who was able to do the job fairly well while Rodri was away.

Matheus Nunes has been largely disappointing after his arrival in City. Pep is not playing him as much as you would think and does not trust him in important matchups. Ilkay Gundogan is back. While he is not as defensively orientated as Rodri is, he is able to command the midfield really well and could be the best replacement in the middle of the field that Guardiola may have hoped for.

How Long Is Rodrigo Injured For?

The latest Rodri injury update says that he will be out for the rest of the season. After going through ACL surgery, the result is that he will be out for the entire season. There is no current news about an exact date when he will be back, but it will largely depend on the rehabilitation period and how he reacts to the treatment. Knowing Rodri, he will make it happen and be back much earlier than people think.

At the start of the 2024/25 Premier League season, things are not looking any better for Man Utd. It has been quite a while since the Red Devils were seen as a threat. A team that could defeat everything in front of whom each team trembles at the mere sight of them. Erik ten Hag was appointed as a saviour, but even he was not able to turn things around.

The fans are losing patience with each passing game. The defeat against the Spurs at Old Trafford by 3:0 only intensified talks about manager changes and demanding radical changes. We don’t really know why Man Utd is so bad, but we can try and answer that question with a few thoughts of our own.

Appointing ten Hag as a Coach

Many saw Erik ten Hag as a perfect coach for Manchester United. Thought as the mad genius who would be able to take the team and immediately start creating results. After three years at the helm of the Red Devils, he still was not able to produce the results that the fans wanted.

The Premier League title is now ever further than it ever was. Winning the EFL Cup in 2022/23 and the FA Cup in 2023/24 were not enough for the fans. Most are pointing the finger at ten Hag. At first, we did agree that he needed more time to adapt to the team, and the league, and create his own system. But after seeing Arne Slot adapting to the Liverpool bench like a fish to water, we can’t really give any more excuses to ten Hag for coming to the EPL from a weaker league.

Bad Transfers

One of the answers to the question about what’s wrong with Man Utd, are bad transfers. Their transfer policy is one of their downfalls, that’s for sure. Erik ten Hag tried bringing in a number of his favourite players which he coached during his time at Ajax. But most of them are not at the level of the Premier League.

Players like Donny van de Beek, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Mason Mount, and Sofyan Amrabat turned out as massive flops. The situation with Raphaël Varane was unfortunate as he was never fit enough to play. Casemiro started well, but his sudden dip in form coincided with the team’s bad results.

Even the ageing Cristiano Ronaldo was not able to bring success to the team. There is still hope for the likes of Rasmus Højlund, Leny Yoro, and Manuel Ugarte, who are still very young players who could start making a difference, but they still need more time.

The Glazers’ Ownership

Finally, probably one of the biggest reasons for the downfall of the Red Devils are its owners. The shouts “Glazers out” never seem to stop and are now even more apparent and loud than they ever were. The wealthy owners from the US have never been able to understand the footballing culture surrounding Man Utd.

The longer the owners stay the same, the more likely that changes are not going to come. A lot of people have mentioned the bad atmosphere surrounding, not only the team but the grounds, the training centre, everything. And most people blame the owners for this situation. It simply means that changes need to start from the root if they are to be effective.

Scoring goals will put you in the lead, but protecting your own net will get you points. Football is a game in which we like seeing goals scored left and right. It makes things more watchable and fun for us viewers. But football experts, and especially managers, are much more content when they finish the game without conceding a goal.

Jose Mourinho is the prime example of a manager who prefers to protect his own net primarily. Max Allegri is another one. However, the two drastically differ as Mourinho managed to transfer his defensive style into ways of winning multiple European trophies.

Nevertheless, today we want to tackle the concept of teams with the most clean sheets in the Premier League and how it affects the results that they’ve made.

Most Clean Sheets in EPL 2023/24

Looking back at the most recent history, Arsenal were the club who were able to protect their own net the most last season. In the season behind us, the Gunners managed 18 games without conceding a goal. They earned the Premier League most clean sheets title mainly thanks to goalkeeper David Raya, who was tremendous at goal.

However, surprisingly enough Everton were the second team with the most clean sheets in EPL in 2023/24. They managed 13 of those and tied Manchester City, the title winners, in second place. But the Toffees’ results differed drastically from the Gunners and the Cityzens.

Sean Dyche’s men barely escaped relegation as they finished 15th in the table.

Most Clean Sheets in Premier League History

If we take a look at it from a historical perspective, you might be surprised that Manchester United is the team with the most clean sheets in EPL history. The Red Devils went 506 games without allowing a goal.

Chelsea is trailing behind them with 482 games, and Arsenal is third with 471 games. Surprisingly, the current champions, Man City, are in sixth place with 361 games. The Cityzens may be the most dominant team in the Premier League at the moment, but the situation was far different some ten or twenty years ago.

Manchester Utd may not be the force that they once were. However, under Sir Alex Ferguson, they were the most dominant team in Europe, allowing them to rack up many games without conceding a goal.

Most Clean Sheets this Season

Not to anyone’s surprise, the team with the most clean sheets at the start of the season is Arsenal. They kept their defence intact and have bought David Raya on a permanent deal, making one of the most rock-solid defences in the league. Alongside them are Liverpool, with three clean sheets in four games.

David Raya was the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets last season with 16. Before him, it was David De Gea with 17 during his final season at Man Utd. Allison Becker and David Raya are goalkeepers with the most clean sheets this season. Allowing both the Reds and the Gunners prime title contenders this season.

As far as history goes, the undisputed goalkeeper in EPL history is the legendary Czech goalkeeper, Petr Cech. He went 202 games without allowing a goal in.

With the Premier League transfer window closing soon, the teams have already almost but finalised their teams for the coming seasons. While we still may expect to see bombs happening on the very last day, big names have already changed clubs or have decided to give it a go in England.

With all sorts of Premier League transfers and rumours being mentioned everywhere, we would like to highlight the top ones that are sure to make an impact in the coming season. More Premier League transfer news is sure to come out soon; here are our thoughts on the most prolific ones.

Riccardo Calafiori (Arsenal)

One of the standout performers of the most recent 2024 Euro, Riccardo Calafiori is making a move to the Gunners. He will exchange the Serie A for the Premier League for a reported fee of €45.00m. Calafiori impressed everyone in Bologna last season, helping them reach their first Champions League outing in history.

He became a standard player in Luciano Spalletti’s Italy side and excelled in the centre-back position. However, his versatility will most likely see him play in the left-back position under Mikel Arteta. Being that the two centre-back spots are currently occupied by William Saliba and Gabriel, Calafiori will take his starting role on the left/ With tendencies to drop in the midfield when needed.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (Chelsea)

Everyone seems to be looking past Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The latest Chelsea signing, which they brought on a reported fee of €35.40m, was a standout performer for Leicester last season, scoring 15 goals and providing 20 assists in the Championship. He was the sole reason that the Foxes came back to the Premier League after a single season away.

This one is shaping up to be one of the most underrated FA Premier League transfers this season. Dewsbury-Hall usually plays in the central-mid position. But he excels on the flanks, from where he was most effective last season. Being that he will be playing under Enco Mareska again, who definitely got the best out of him, we are expecting Kiernan to thrive and maybe earn a starting spot in front of Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke.

Savinho (Manchester City)

Girona was the standout team in La Liga last season. One of their best players was the young Brazilian winger Savinho. Also known as Savio, the talented Brazilian was groomed by Man City, being officially Troyes player, loaned out to Girona. All of these teams are members of the City Football Group. Making it rather obvious that Savinho would one day end up on the Blue side of Manchester.

Savinho scored nine goals and provided ten assists in La Liga last season. He is the type of player that Pep Guardiola likes. Savinho could end up being Erling Haaland’s perfect partner. He can feed him with assists and score by himself. However, he will be battling for his spot with Jérémy Doku, Julián Álvarez, and Phil Foden. If he does emerge, he could prove to be one of the most underrated football Premier League transfers this season.

Joshua Zirkzee (Manchester United)

Has Erik ten Hag finally found the piece that he has been looking for to bolster his attack? Joshua Zirkzee was a hot prospect after his star performance for Bologna in the Serie A last season. After being ousted in Bayern Munich, Zirkzee found his place in Thiago Motta’s star side.

Zirkzee scored 13 and added seven assists, making it the most prolific season of his career. The best part is that ten Hag can utilise him on the flanks alongside Rasmus Højlund. Or in the very centre of the attack instead of Højlund. However, we shall have to wait and see how he adapts to life in Manchester.

It’s not about the money; it’s about passion. I bet you’ve heard that a thousand times before when someone was telling you about why they started playing football. Yet, the one thing no one can turn a blind eye to is players’ salaries, often discussed in the media.

I saw many debates about whether a footballer deserves the salary they get. From underpaid to overpaid players, football lovers witnessed many controversial contracts. All this led me to explore and compile a list of the highest paid Premier League players in the last 20 years or so and let you be the judge about the overall fairness behind it.

Frank Lampard – Season 2004/05

Lampard was arguably one of the best midfielders for most of his career. In the 2004/05 season, Jose Mourinho coached Chelsea. In the same season, Lampard got a contract paying him £98,000 per week.

The Englishman scored lots of important goals for his club, which also won the title that season. Lampard’s overall skills were key contributors to Chelsea’s overall performance.

Steven Gerrard – Season 2005/06

Another amazing player coming from the Reds’ squad, Steven Gerrard, played big for big money. The Premier League season 2005/06 saw Stevie G getting £100,000 every week.

Liverpool’s fans were amazed by Gerrard’s decision not to leave this club for Chelsea. Gerrard stayed at Anfield during the most difficult times. The Reds’ midfielder even led this team to the Champions League title one season before.

Andriy Shevchenko – Season 2006/07

One of the best, if not the best Ukrainian football players of all time, Andriy Shevchenko, became part of Chelsea’s squad in the season 2006/07. Shevchenko was an absolute monster while playing for Milan in Italy.

It’s somewhat strange that he couldn’t have a similar performance for Chelsea. Getting £118,000 per week may have been too much for a four-goal-in-30-matches performance.

John Terry – Season 2007/08

Roman Abramovich was definitely apt to make big signings while he was the Chelsea owner. Apart from Lampard and Shevchenko, another player who is in the top 10 highest paid Premier League players list is John Terry.

The English defender used to get £135,000 a week. And how could he not? I mean, Terry was one of the best defenders in the entire league. His great stamina, defensive IQ, and even header skills made him excel and get the status and the salary he deserved.

Robinho – Season 2008/09

Back in the era of big talents who were often compared to old football legends, like Pele, Robinho was the main attraction for many big clubs. One of the teams that landed an eye on him was Manchester City.

The Citizens signed Robinho and offered him a £160,000 weekly deal. The Brazilian accepted this offer and became the highest paid footballer for the 2008/09 season. Robinho did play well, scoring 14 goals in 31 Premier League fixtures.

Still, he never met his true potential nor the expectations of many experts. He went back to Brazil soon after this season. Later on, Robinho played for Milan after finally moving away from the most elite football clubs in the world.

Carlos Tevez – Season 2009/10 – 2012/13

Just as we saw Robinho leave, a new face appeared at the City’s door. It was Carlos Tevez, whose contract allowed him to earn £250,000 per week. Man Utd was the first Premier League club that Tevez joined.

He spent two seasons at Old Trafford. After making 99 appearances for United, scoring 34 goals and making 14 assists, the Argentine decided to strengthen the attacking line of United’s fiercest rivals, City.

Some think that he justified his status of the top 10 highest paid Premier League players, while others don’t. All I know is that his stats in City were better than when he played for United.

Tevez scored 73 goals in the 148 games that he played. He also made 32 assists in the same period. It may be that certain fans and experts criticise the Argentine’s performance-salary ratio because he had better stats playing for Juventus after he left City.

Wayne Rooney – Season 2013/14 – 2016/17

One of the most passionate strikers during the 2000s and 2010s was surely Wayne Rooney. The Englishman said many times that his favourite club was Everton. He spent the first two seasons of his professional football career there before he moved to Manchester United.

He stayed at United for as many as 13 seasons and was the highest paid player during the last three Premier League seasons (£300,000). Even before, Rooney was one of the quintessential players for the Red Devils.

He made a record-breaking number of appearances (559) and scored 259 goals for United. Although he played as an attacker, the Englishman made 139 all-time assists for this club as well.

The proof of his greatness also lies in the numerous awards he received. Rooney was the one-time top scorer in the Club World Cup. Moreover, the so-called “Shrek” received the Football of the Year award in England in 2010.

Finally, he was also Player of the Year four times while he was part of United. Not to mention the various trophies he won with this club. Some of the most notable ones are the Champions League, Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup, etc.

Alexis Sanchez – Season 2018/19

After Wayne Rooney, van Persie, and some other great forwards, United struggled to find great strikers for a long time. One of the alternatives to the aforementioned top scorers was Alexis Sanchez.

Upon the signing, we read the news about the Chiliean’s high £350,000-a-week salary. Sanchez even surpassed Paul Pogba, who broke the transfer, along with the salary record, at that time.

However, the Chilliean’s form was bad throughout most of his stay at Old Trafford. He only got to score a few goals before his loan to Inter.

David de Gea – Season 2019/20

In one of his last seasons in the United’s squad, David de Gea was the highest paid player in the Premier League. His weekly salary was (£375,000). Now, everyone who knows de Gea also knows his devotion.

Man Utd made the transfer back in 2011. For someone who was part of one team’s squad for so long and who performed so well, many praise David de Gea and think that his salary at that time mirrored his skills and determination.

Gareth Bale – Season 2020/21

With £560,000 per week, Gareth Bale is the number one footballer among the highest paid Premier League players of all time. The Welshman was part of the Spurs team for six seasons (2007-2013).

He spent the longest part of his career in Real Madrid. One season before going to Los Angeles, Bale was on loan at Tottenham. The Welshman played unbelievably well in the past.

His poor form in Real made this club lend him to the Spurs and pay the major part of his loan. What’s great here is that Bale scored 19 goals for the club, which shaped him into the player he was.

Cristiano Ronaldo – Season 2021/22

Ronaldo takes the second spot on the list of the highest paid Premier League players of all time. One of the best players of all time went from Sporting to Man Utd more than 20 years ago. The Portuguese said to himself that Sir Alex Ferguson played a key role in his becoming the master of this sport.

So, after many seasons in Real Madrid and three seasons in Juventus, Ronaldo came back to Manchester United, saying that he did that because he respected this club and its former coach, Ferguson. Well, he also had another good reason for this, and that was his £480,000 weekly salary.

Kevin De Bruyne – Season 2022/23 and 2023/24

Kevin De Bruyne is one of the best midfielders in modern football. The Belgian also plays for one of the strongest clubs in the world, Manchester City, whose manager is one of the top coaches, Pep Guardiola.

De Bruyne’s stats speak for themselves, and they feature seven goals with a number of assists (17) in the 2022/23 season. Unfortunately, this player suffered an injury and played only 18 games in the season 2023/24.

In just 18 matches, the Belgian managed to score four times and make 10 assists. In both the last and the penultimate season, De Bruyne’s salary was £400,000 a week. If we take this into account, we’ll see that Bruyne holds the third position when it comes to the highest paid Premier League players in history, right after Bale and Ronaldo.

There are many legends in football, particularly on the British Isles. Both the Premier League, the Championship, and any other league in Britain have their own inspiring players. Most of those legends have not only made a career for themselves but went on to inspire other, much younger players to start playing football.

Some of these English football legends rose up from the dust and made their way to fame. Others had an easier ride. But what connects them all is that they have done much more than most were hoping for them to achieve. There are two British football legends that we want to focus on, as each one of them had a different road to success.

David Beckham

The former English captain and Manchester Utd player David Beckham is a household name when it comes to football. He started off with humble beginnings and began playing football simply because of the fact he loved it. He never once imagined as a kid that he would one day become Becks and would be married to a Spice Girl.

His dad’s dream came true when he started playing for the Red Devils. Bue young Beckham went above and beyond by becoming a legend of the club. Among all English football team players, current and retired, he has to be the one who has amassed the most fame.

He has become a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF UK and is now the owner of MLS’s Inter Miami. But at the same time, he has inspired more young boys to start playing football than you could possibly imagine.

Even though he hasn’t won a major silverware with the Tree Lions, Becks remains one of the most memorable England football team legends.

Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy is a working-class hero. He represents the staple of what hard work and patience can give you if you work at it. Vardy hasn’t had the luck that most young players had when they were starting out. At the age of 23, he was playing for Stocksbridge Park Steels, a team from the 6th division of English football.

Two years later, he found himself in the Championship with Leicester City. He soon became their best player and top scorer and eventually earned promotion with the Foxes. However, his biggest feat was still in front of him. He helped Leicester lift their first EPL title during the 2019/20 season. At the same time, he was the best scorer in the league.

Vardy has been an underdog all of his life, and he prefers it that way. Even after becoming an English international, he stayed loyal to Leicester. He never left the East Midlands and has stayed with the club even after being relegated.

At 37 years of age, he is still with Leicester and will be playing Premier League football next year once again. Jamie is the true embodiment of what hard work and dedication can bring you. He is not nearly one of the best English football players ever, but he is the one that everyone should look up to.

We all like watching the Premier League. We enjoy the unique moments, amazing goals, captivating atmospheres, and games on the edge that end up with a late goal winner. However, there is a whole different side of football, an uncharming one that we tend to forget – Fouls.

Especially fouls sanctioned by yellow cards. The Premier League is known for its physicality and roughness, and a number of players have made a career out of being the hard man on the pitch. You immediately start thinking of familiar names like Paul Gascoigne, Roy Kean, and Vinnie Jones. Bigger offenders actually exist, even compared to them.

Today, we talk about Premier League yellow card stats and see which teams and players have committed the most atrocities.

The Player With the Most Premier League Yellow Cards

Who has the most yellow cards in the Premier League? This might come as a surprise, but the player who has the most is Gareth Barry. He has earned 123 yellow cards during his long career in the league. However, he holds another record, and that is playing the most EPL games.

While playing for Aston Villa, Man City, Everton and West Brom, Barry appeared in 653 games in the Prem. He was a sturdy midfielder and even made 53 appearances for the national side. Apparently, he also didn’t allow anyone to get past him with ease. He wasn’t known for committing hard fouls, like Roy Keane, for example, but he did them to break up play and eventually accumulated the most EPL yellow cards out of all players.

Yellow Card Premier League Stats by Clubs

The most undisciplined side in the history of the Premier League is a surprising one. It is none other than the boys in blue, Chelsea. The team from Stamford Bridge has committed 1,982 yellow card offences so far.

They stand above Everton, who are close with 1,937, and Tottenham, in third with 1,869. The Blues have spent all 32 seasons in the Premier League so far. They have managed to stay up and never drop down.

This means that the average yellow cards per game Premier League record for Chelsea is 61.9 per season. Last year, they broke that record as they had 105 yellow cards called against them.

For comparison, the team with the least number of yellow cards is Swindon Town, with 39. Mind you, the Robins played only a single season in the Premier League.

The best of all the top five leagues, the Premier League, once again gave us a season to remember. The majority of clubs are very strong. However, the fact that the battle for the title was so intense only shows how competitive this league is.

It wasn’t until the very last round before the Premier League season end that we found out the title winner. How did the champions come to be? What about the journey of the rest of the top English clubs?

The Timeline: Premier League Season Start and End

It all started on 11 August 2023. As before, the Premier League featured the best 20 teams. The round-robin format also remained untouched. In other words, each club played against every other team twice, once as a home, and once as an away team. The club that collected the most points at the Premier League season end got to lift the trophy.

The Fierce Battle for the Trophy

The fight for the title between Arsenal, Liverpool, and City will probably remain one of the toughest ones in the Premier League. Admittedly, the Citizens, the Gunners, and the Reds were the strongest clubs this season.

No team lost more than five games in total. Also, Arsenal had the least number of draws (5). Together with City, the Gunners had the highest number of wins (28). As the end approached, Liverpool lost its pace and Arsenal and City went ahead.

A few rounds before the last one, the Citizens had two more points than the second-ranked Arsenal. Both teams faced some hard nuts to crack in this period. While many fans hoped that Arsenal could win the title for a change as it beat Everton in the last round, Man City also did well and secured the last three points. This was enough for them to end up as the top-ranking team in the Premier League.

Which Clubs Will Play in Europe in the Next Season?

Aside from the Champions League, the Europa League also introduced a new format. The same goes for the Conference League. The Premier League clubs that will play in the most elite contest, that is, the Champions League, are Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Aston Villa.

Tottenham was pretty close to Aston Villa, but the Spurs missed two points in order to join the Champions League. Instead, the North Londoners will play in the Europa League. Although far away from the fifth and sixth spot, Man Utd will play in the same contest as they won the FA Cup.

Finally, Chelsea, the club that ended up sixth, with three points less than the Spurs, will get to play in the Conference League.

Premier League Season End 2024: Saying Goodbye to 3 Teams

Every season, we have to say goodbye to the three worst-ranked teams in the Premier League. Sheffield, Burnley, and Luton are the ones to leave this season. Sheffield had the worst performance, as it gained only 16 points. On the other hand, Burnley took 24, and Luton took 26 points.Leicester, Ipswich, and Southampton are the newcomers to this league that we’ll see in the next season. The first two received direct promotions, whereas Southampton played in the playoffs before securing its spot there.

Brighton and Hove Albion, or simply Brighton as football fans like to call it for short, has emerged as an unexpected powerhouse in English football. Seen as a lower-tier club for many years and a team that will forever be fighting to either preserve their Premier League status or try and gain promotion to the EPL, Brighton has done all doubters wrong and showed that they are a much bigger club than everyone thinks.

While the history of Brighton and Hove stems back 122 years to the past, the club has only gotten the attention it needs in recent years. Of course, this coincided with all the latest successes the club’s been having.

But what makes the Seagulls so interesting to watch and talk about? We decided to take a closer look at a club and a city that may be primarily known as a vacation spot for British people but is now becoming a major football club. Let’s check out Brighton and Hove Albion’s history and how this club came to be.

Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. History & Formation

The club came to be in 1901 but under the name Brighton & Hove United. The name didn’t stick around for long and the club changed it to Brighton & Hove Albion, which remains unchanged till today. Immediately after its establishment, the club took its place in the Southern League, instead of the defunct Brighton & Hove Rangers.

They played there during the next 19 years before receiving an invitation to become a part of the newest Football League’s Third Division. But it was during those 19 years when Brighton won their first and only major trophy. In 1910 they defeated Aston Villa to lift the FA Charity Shield trophy, which back then was contested between the champions of the Football League and the Southern League.

After making a switch to the regional division in 1921, they played there until the 1957/58 season. By winning the title they also gained promotion to the Second Division. They remained there until 1962 when they were unfortunately relegated. Unfortunately for them, they suffered back-to-back relegations and slipped into the fourth division for the very first time in their history in 1963.

Luckily for them, they didn’t stick around in the Fourth Division for too long. The very next year they won the title and went back up. In 1972, they finished second in the Third Division, securing their place back to Second Division after quite a long time.

Near Obliteration of Brighton & Hove Albion

During the late 80s and throughout the 90s, the Seagulls went through one of the most tumultuous times in their history. The 1987 season saw them relegated to Division Three, from which they bounced back the very next season. In 1991, they lost their chance in the promotion playoff by losing to Notts County. Things got even worse as from near promotion they actually suffered yet another relegation the very next year.

In 1996, the club went another step back and ended up playing in Division Three. It was at the same time that the club’s financial woes started to emerge. The club resorted to selling their home stadium, Goldstone Ground, in an attempt to relieve some of the financial problems that they were having. It was then that Dick Knight, a lifelong fan, took control of the club. That season, Brighton escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth.

The sale of their own home stadium would haunt them for years. At first, they would play at Gillingham’s Priestfield Stadium, before securing a lease to Withdean Stadium in 1999. It was only in 2011 after the Tony Bloom takeover when the Seagulls finally got their own stadium. The new chairman managed to secure the necessary funding, making Falmer Stadium finally a reality for Brighton.

Promotion to the Premier League

After appointing Chris Hughton as manager in 2014, things started looking better for the Seagulls. In the very same season, he saved the team from relegation. The very next season, he started building a team that would contend for the top.

In the 2015/16 season, Brighton went on a 21-game unbeaten run, a record for both the club and the league. Unfortunately for them, they missed an automatic promotion spot due to a goal difference. After having to play in the promotion play-offs semi-finals, they suffered defeat from Sheffield Wednesday, ultimately ending their dream of promotion.

But the very next season was finally when their dream of playing in the Premier League came through. During the 2016/17 season, Brighton was the best club in the league and got a chance to play in the top flight for only the second time in history. After nearly dropping down into the Conference in 1997, Brighton came to play in the big show where they always wanted to be.

Brighton’s History in the Premier League

It is safe to say that things didn’t go easy for Brighton in the Premier League. During their first four years there, they mainly battled to preserve their place there. This would also spell the end for Chris Hughton, the man who brought them there. His replacement would be Graham Potter in 2019.

Potter helped the club rise steadily and established their familiar style of football. He would help the Seagulls finish 9th, which was their best positioning in the top flight at the time. He would also help promote a number of talented players, as under him Brighton became known for developing astounding talents. Unfortunately, Brighton could not keep their talents for long but would manage to make an astounding profit with each new player they sold.

Excellent results meant Potter leaving for Chelsea, with Roberto De Zerbi continuing from where he left off in 2022. The Italian manager, who was known for his successes with Shakhtar Donetsk, would launch the Seagulls even higher. During the 2022/23 season, Brighton would finish 6th and for the first time in their history qualify for a European competition.

De Zerbi’s time at American Express Stadium would end only a year later. He managed the Seagulls through a successful Europa League campaign and helped them finish 11th in the Premier League.

Record Departures in Brighton’s Football History

What the club became known for in recent years was buying players for cheap, and selling them off for enormous prices. This type of politics did not only help the team rise, it helped them get financial stability as well as results. The players they brought in have helped the club achieve enormous success. But after ending their time with the club, they departed for enormous fees.

These are some of the names that grew at Brighton and went on to bigger clubs eventually, with some even becoming one of the most expensive transfers in Premier League history.

Moises Caicedo to Chelsea for £100m

Marc Cucurella to Chelsea £56m

Ben White to Arsenal for £50m

Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool for £35m

Yves Bissouma to Tottenham for £25m

Leandro Trossard to Arsenal for £21m

Robert Sanchez to Chelsea for £20m

And the club is not stopping there. The most recent names who have already made a name for themselves in Brighton are the 19-year-old Irish striker Evan Ferguson and the fast-paced Japanese winger Kaoru Mitoma. Besides them, Simon Adingra, Julio Enciso, Carlos Baleba, and Facundo Buonanotte are players who are making waves.

Brighton and Hove Albion Badge History

Brighton’s original crest was a bit more traditional compared to the modern version that we have today. The team’s logo incorporated two coats of arms from both twin cities Brighton and Hove and was placed on an ornate shield.

However, during the 70s the club became known as the Dolphins. A blue crest with a dolphin was created, but the nickname and the badge were used for only three years. It was actually during a match against the rival Crystal Palace when they switched to the Seagulls. The rival supporters were shouting “Eagles, eagles,” the nickname of their club. Brighton supporters came back at them with “Seagulls, seagulls.”

The chairman liked it so much that he decided to rebrand the club. A new crest came to be in 1977 which saw a soaring seagull placed on a blue field, with the name of the club right above it. The same badge exists even to this day, with minor upgrades made.

As far as the Brighton and Hove Albion kit history, it hasn’t had any dramatic changes. The club started with their traditional blue and white colours. However, during the 70s they wore all-white, and in the 80s they switched to royal blue. However, they switched back to both blue and white and have kept the same kit colours even to this day.
