While football is shifting towards becoming a young man’s game more and more as the years go by, they still can’t do without having a few sturdy veterans on their team. The Premier League is known for its physicality and strong play, so they have to know how to position themselves to impact the team.

Having a veteran player is also good for the locker room. A player who has seen it all, done it all, will often have the greatest authority in the locker room and influence on the team. They usually motivate their peers and help younger players develop into future stars. Besides, for us fans, it’s much easier to bet on teams when you know there are players who have a glorious history on the court, and you feel more at ease to use the welcome offers when you sign up on a website.

This year, the Premier League does not lack experience. We have compiled a list of the 10 oldest Premier League players who are still making an impact on their teams.

10. Ben Mee (35 years old) Brentford

Date of Birth: September 21, 1989

Ben Mee has become a staple of Brentford’s defence. A team known for protecting the net and allowing the fewest number of goals in the past few years. Most of it is owed to Ben Mee. He made an impact at Burnley where he played for 10 years. Six of them were in the Premier League. He was even a part of the famed side which qualified for the Europa League during the 2018/19 season.

For the past three years, he has been with Brentford and has become one of the most reliable players in the squad. He might be one of the Premier League’s oldest players now and his playing time has been significantly reduced this season, mostly due to an injury that he suffered last year, he still has the chops to step on the field wherever Thomas Frank requires of him.

9. Neto (35 years old) Arsenal

Date of Birth: July 19, 1989

Neto is one of the more experienced goalkeepers in the Premier League. Having played in Italy (Fiorentina and Juventus) and Spain (Valencia and Barcelona), he breathes in security and experience whenever he stands between the posts. He moved to England during the 2022/23 season and originally joined AFC Bournemouth on loan.

He immediately captured the number one spot which prompted the Cherries to make his move permanent the very next year. However, due to Kepa Arrizabalaga joining this season, he will feature for Arsenal as a reserve keeper. He might be the oldest Premier League player on their squad, but he will without a doubt be ready to step in for David Raya whenever called for.

8. Martin Dúbravka (35 years) Newcastle United

Date of Birth: January 15, 1989

Another goalkeeper of our oldest players in theis Martin Dúbravka. A long-time serving member of Newcastle, having been with the Georides since the 2017/18 season, he now serves as the backup goalkeeper for Nick Pope. He spent a year on a loan at Manchester United. But the Magpies were happy to have him back, and as things stand, the Slovakian international may even retire in Newcastle.

While he hasn’t been featuring regularly ever since the 2021/22 season, when he made 26 appearances, he stepped in when it mattered the most for the Magpies. Last season, during Pope’s absence, he played for 23 games, racking up five clean sheets. While currently appearing only in the EFL Cup, if an opportunity knocks, we might see him more.

7. Seamus Coleman (35 years) Everton

Date of Birth: October 11, 1988

He was one of the best right-backs in the league during his high days. Seamus Coleman, the sturdy Irishman, seems like he doesn’t want to retire. Appearing for Everton since 2009, he has been a loyal servant of the Toffees and a genuine one-club man, racking up 365 appearances for the club.

Even though we are seeing less and less of Coleman on the pitch in recent years, he has been an important member of the squad despite all the coaching changes. When he decides to retire, and we are not pushing him to do so, he will be remembered for his picture-perfect crosses from the right flank and devastating free kicks which allowed him to rack up 22 goals for Everton in the Premier League.

6. Adam Lallana (36 Years) Southampton

Date of Birth: May 10, 1988

Adam Lallana seems like he has seen it all and done it all. Nevertheless, instead of retiring, he came back to Southampton this year to help the newly promoted Saints stay up in the Premier League. During his illustrious career, he also played for Liverpool and Brighton. While most of the Liverpool fans would rather forget the period when he was there, his four years at Brighton actually helped him revive his career.

He felt rejuvenated under both Graham Potter and later Roberto De Zerbi and featured as a utility midfielder. His immense experience helped to influence and develop young players, especially with the Seagulls which are known for producing young talents. If the Saints by some miracle manage to stay in the Prem, we have a feeling that we will be seeing more from Lallana in the coming years.

5. Johnny Evans (36 Years) Manchester United

Date of Birth: January 3, 1988

Just like that, Johnny Evans became one of the oldest current Premier League players. It seemed that it was only yesterday when Sir Alex Ferguson granted him his debut for the Red Devils, under which he spent nine years. He continued with West Brom and Leicester City, establishing himself as a reliable option at the back.

Last year, when help was needed he came back to Old Trafford and he is still a part of the squad. Johnny is a no-nonsense, old-school defender. The likes that we don’t see anymore these days. Evans may be a dying breed of defenders, but he can still pull his weight and even lock up the back line.

4. Jamie Vardy (37 years old) Leicester City

Date of Birth: January 11, 1987

Jamie Vardy is an absolute legend of the sport who has a bonafide underdog story. In 2011 he was playing for Fleetwood Town in the National League. In 2016 he lifted the Premier League title with Leicester and became the Player of the Season. He was also EPL’s Golden Boot winner during the 2019/20 season when he scored 23 goals.

Jamie is now one of the oldest Premier League players at the age of 37. But he is still Fox’s primary number 9 option. Having spent a year away from the Prem, they are now back in England’s top flight. Jamie has already scored two goals in 7 matches played. How long he decides to play is up to him, but we are definitely sure that he is not going anywhere away from Leicester.

3. James Milner (38 years old) Brighton & Hove Albion

Date of Birth: January 4, 1986

At the age of 38, James Milner is not stopping and has continued playing with Brighton, the club that he has been with during the past season. If he continues to appear regularly for the Seagulls, he just might overtake Gareth Barry at the top of the Premier League’s most appearances list, as he currently ranks second.

Milner has actually made the most appearances as a sub in the league. He has also featured in every season between 2002/03 and the current one. These are numbers and records that we can’t see anyone breaking any time soon. Milner has seen it all and done it all. He started with Leeds but also played with Newcastle, Aston Villa, Man City, and Liverpool. It is fascinating to see that he can still play competitive football and has the versatility to make an impact on the field.

2. Ashley Young (39 Years) Everton

Date of Birth: July 9, 1985

It seems that Everton have a knack for keeping ageing players busy. Featuring on the left flank of Sean Dyche’s defence is the legendary Ashley Young. This is his second season with the Toffees which he joined from Aston Villa. However, fans will mostly remember him during his time at Manchester United, where he spent 9 years and won the Premier League and the Europa League.

While he is getting close to 40, it seems that he is not thinking about retirement. Ashley may have lost a bit of his pace. But it is why he was moved back from an offensive role, which he occupied for the better part of his career, to a defensive one. The position suits him and he just may decide to stay there for a few more years. He might even become the oldest Premier League footballer.

1. Lukasz Fabianski (39 years old) West Ham United

Date of Birth: April 18, 1985

At the number one spot of the oldest players in the Premier League is West Ham’s former number one, Lukasz Fabianski. An experienced and reliable goalkeeper, the Polish international has been with the Hammers since 2018. He also featured for Arsenal and Swansea in the Premier League but has made the most impact in East London.

Fabianski only made 10 Premier League appearances and this one only has one this year. He was moved to the role of backup goalkeeper to Alphonse Areola. But he will still feature in the EFL Cup. Goalkeepers usually have longer careers. It still seems that Lukasz Fabiansk could go for a few more, especially in his current role with West Ham.

Every player dreams of winning the Champions League, the most elite football club competition in the world. Some footballers have mastered this game, and the strongest clubs have had them in their squads, so they have lifted this trophy more than once.

These clubs are record holders for every bit of this game. And the same goes for the players with most Champions League titles in history. In fact, you’ll be surprised by their number, and maybe not so surprised when you see which club they used to play when winning the trophy.

Carvajal and Modric (Six)

Mordic and Carvajal have been part of Real Madrid for 12 and 11 years, respectively. A well-known fact is that Los Blancos are the team with the biggest number of CL titles in the history of this sport.

But what’s a lot more surprising is that both of these players won all six trophies with Real Madrid. If we do the maths, we will realise that Los Blancos won this contest every two years on average in this timespan, which is absolutely stunning.

Both Modric and Carvajal’s position does not reveal their real contribution through goals and assists. Instead, these footballers went down in history as the players with most Champions Leagues by absolutely ruling the midfield and the right-back lines.

C.Ronaldo, Benzema, and Kroos (Five)

As you start to realise now, Real Madrid is the club with the most Champions League titles by player. So, it’s no wonder that Benzema and Kroos have five Champion League titles with Los Blancos.

Technically speaking, Kroos was a Bayern Munich player when this club won the Champions League. However, he didn’t take part in the finals. Another player with the most Champions League titles is Cristiano Ronaldo.

Although the Portuguese won one title with Man Utd, he still got as many as four trophies with Los Blancos. Toni Kroos retired this year after the Euro, while Benzema and Ronaldo still play in Saudi Arabia.

Bale, Casemiro, Isco, Marcelo, Ramos, Seedorf, Iniesta (Four)

Seven players have won this competition four times. You may have guessed it already: Bale, Casemiro, Isco, Marcelo, and Ramos are all Real Madrid players.

One of the remaining players from the list, Iniesta, played for Barcelona each time he lifted the Champions League trophy. On the other hand, Seedorf is one of the players with most Champions League titles, who won this contest with three different clubs.

The Dutch even celebrated the CL victory with Milan twice. These two trophies with Milan were also his latest ones (in 2003 and 2007). Before that, Seedorf won the Champions League title with Los Blancos in 1998.

Going backwards, the Dutch had his first CL trophy in 1995 with Ajax. Seedorf contributed greatly to winning this trophy and helped Ajax become one of the most successful clubs in the Netherlands and Europe.

In an exciting title race encounter between Man City and Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium, the Cityzens managed to save a point thanks to John Stones last-minute equaliser. However, they lost much more than that. They lost their rock, their engine, and their best player, Rodri.

Pep Guardiola recently announced that the injury will separate the Spaniard from the field for the entire season. He actually had meniscus damage prior to the Arsenal game. Unfortunately for him, Rodri’s injury caused him to have to go through ACL surgery which definitely put an end to his season.

So what does all of this mean for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City?

Man City’s Stats With and Without Rodri

With Rodri injured, we can safely say that City have lost their most important player. Sure, Erling Halaand may be getting all the accolades for the goals he scores. But Rodri is the brain of the team who keeps everything together. He is willing to do the dirty work and keeps the team balanced both in the defence and the attack.

Last season, Manchester City lost only three games. You guessed it, Rodri was absent in all three of them. He has amassed 52 consecutive fixtures without a loss before his early exit versus Arsenal.

Rodri played 50 games last season, totalling 4,325 minutes. He was the most consistent player in Pep’s squad and barely missed any matches.

Man City has won 74.1% of their games with Rodri on the field. Contrary, they won only 61.9% of their EPL games without him.

Who is the Best Replacement for Rodri?

With Rodri injury news being made public, there have been immediate talks about his potential replacement. There is no chance that somebody will be able to mirror his output. But Guardiola will be happy if one of his midfielders is able to produce at least half as much as Rodri did.

Mateo Kovacic is the most natural replacement, and for a large part of the season, he has been doing a great job doing so. Alongside him is Rico Lewis, who is not a natural midfielder but somebody who was able to do the job fairly well while Rodri was away.

Matheus Nunes has been largely disappointing after his arrival in City. Pep is not playing him as much as you would think and does not trust him in important matchups. Ilkay Gundogan is back. While he is not as defensively orientated as Rodri is, he is able to command the midfield really well and could be the best replacement in the middle of the field that Guardiola may have hoped for.

How Long Is Rodrigo Injured For?

The latest Rodri injury update says that he will be out for the rest of the season. After going through ACL surgery, the result is that he will be out for the entire season. There is no current news about an exact date when he will be back, but it will largely depend on the rehabilitation period and how he reacts to the treatment. Knowing Rodri, he will make it happen and be back much earlier than people think.

At the start of the 2024/25 Premier League season, things are not looking any better for Man Utd. It has been quite a while since the Red Devils were seen as a threat. A team that could defeat everything in front of whom each team trembles at the mere sight of them. Erik ten Hag was appointed as a saviour, but even he was not able to turn things around.

The fans are losing patience with each passing game. The defeat against the Spurs at Old Trafford by 3:0 only intensified talks about manager changes and demanding radical changes. We don’t really know why Man Utd is so bad, but we can try and answer that question with a few thoughts of our own.

Appointing ten Hag as a Coach

Many saw Erik ten Hag as a perfect coach for Manchester United. Thought as the mad genius who would be able to take the team and immediately start creating results. After three years at the helm of the Red Devils, he still was not able to produce the results that the fans wanted.

The Premier League title is now ever further than it ever was. Winning the EFL Cup in 2022/23 and the FA Cup in 2023/24 were not enough for the fans. Most are pointing the finger at ten Hag. At first, we did agree that he needed more time to adapt to the team, and the league, and create his own system. But after seeing Arne Slot adapting to the Liverpool bench like a fish to water, we can’t really give any more excuses to ten Hag for coming to the EPL from a weaker league.

Bad Transfers

One of the answers to the question about what’s wrong with Man Utd, are bad transfers. Their transfer policy is one of their downfalls, that’s for sure. Erik ten Hag tried bringing in a number of his favourite players which he coached during his time at Ajax. But most of them are not at the level of the Premier League.

Players like Donny van de Beek, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Mason Mount, and Sofyan Amrabat turned out as massive flops. The situation with Raphaël Varane was unfortunate as he was never fit enough to play. Casemiro started well, but his sudden dip in form coincided with the team’s bad results.

Even the ageing Cristiano Ronaldo was not able to bring success to the team. There is still hope for the likes of Rasmus Højlund, Leny Yoro, and Manuel Ugarte, who are still very young players who could start making a difference, but they still need more time.

The Glazers’ Ownership

Finally, probably one of the biggest reasons for the downfall of the Red Devils are its owners. The shouts “Glazers out” never seem to stop and are now even more apparent and loud than they ever were. The wealthy owners from the US have never been able to understand the footballing culture surrounding Man Utd.

The longer the owners stay the same, the more likely that changes are not going to come. A lot of people have mentioned the bad atmosphere surrounding, not only the team but the grounds, the training centre, everything. And most people blame the owners for this situation. It simply means that changes need to start from the root if they are to be effective.

Scoring goals will put you in the lead, but protecting your own net will get you points. Football is a game in which we like seeing goals scored left and right. It makes things more watchable and fun for us viewers. But football experts, and especially managers, are much more content when they finish the game without conceding a goal.

Jose Mourinho is the prime example of a manager who prefers to protect his own net primarily. Max Allegri is another one. However, the two drastically differ as Mourinho managed to transfer his defensive style into ways of winning multiple European trophies.

Nevertheless, today we want to tackle the concept of teams with the most clean sheets in the Premier League and how it affects the results that they’ve made.

Most Clean Sheets in EPL 2023/24

Looking back at the most recent history, Arsenal were the club who were able to protect their own net the most last season. In the season behind us, the Gunners managed 18 games without conceding a goal. They earned the Premier League most clean sheets title mainly thanks to goalkeeper David Raya, who was tremendous at goal.

However, surprisingly enough Everton were the second team with the most clean sheets in EPL in 2023/24. They managed 13 of those and tied Manchester City, the title winners, in second place. But the Toffees’ results differed drastically from the Gunners and the Cityzens.

Sean Dyche’s men barely escaped relegation as they finished 15th in the table.

Most Clean Sheets in Premier League History

If we take a look at it from a historical perspective, you might be surprised that Manchester United is the team with the most clean sheets in EPL history. The Red Devils went 506 games without allowing a goal.

Chelsea is trailing behind them with 482 games, and Arsenal is third with 471 games. Surprisingly, the current champions, Man City, are in sixth place with 361 games. The Cityzens may be the most dominant team in the Premier League at the moment, but the situation was far different some ten or twenty years ago.

Manchester Utd may not be the force that they once were. However, under Sir Alex Ferguson, they were the most dominant team in Europe, allowing them to rack up many games without conceding a goal.

Most Clean Sheets this Season

Not to anyone’s surprise, the team with the most clean sheets at the start of the season is Arsenal. They kept their defence intact and have bought David Raya on a permanent deal, making one of the most rock-solid defences in the league. Alongside them are Liverpool, with three clean sheets in four games.

David Raya was the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets last season with 16. Before him, it was David De Gea with 17 during his final season at Man Utd. Allison Becker and David Raya are goalkeepers with the most clean sheets this season. Allowing both the Reds and the Gunners prime title contenders this season.

As far as history goes, the undisputed goalkeeper in EPL history is the legendary Czech goalkeeper, Petr Cech. He went 202 games without allowing a goal in.

Besides a domestic league, almost every European country has its cup. Cup formats generally include different teams from different leagues within one country. One of the most popular ones is, of course, the English FA Cup.

This contest is very old, and many football enthusiasts like to watch it because of the diversity of teams it brings. Not only that, but we also had a chance to see some surprises, making this competition even more interesting. Lots of fans now await the FA Cup 2024/25, many of which wonder about the favourites and underdogs, which I discuss right here.

FA Cup 2024/25 Top Title Contenders

From the beginning, you may have guessed that Man City would be the number-one favourite to win this tournament this season. Considering their power, it’s a bit obvious that the Citizens are the major pretenders to the trophy. This team is also the heaviest English favourite to win the Champions League this season.

The number two hunter looking for the prey (FA Cup trophy) is Arsenal. The Gunners have proven time and again that they know how to play in this tournament. They even won three FA Cups in four years less than a decade ago.

The odds for Liverpool to win the FA Cup are a bit higher than, but not much higher than for Arsenal to do so. So, the eight-time champions, the Reds, are third on the list to win the FA Cup.

The difference between Liverpool and Chelsea’s winning odds is even smaller. Maresca’s men may not be in their top form right now. Still, bookies think that their winning chances are higher compared to teams like Newcastle and Man Utd.

Speaking of which, Newcastle did have a great start in the previous Premier League season. They made some major transfers, but their good games didn’t last. Manchester United even won this contest last season. However, ten Hag’s men are still struggling to find the right form. This may be why bookies place the Red Devils in the sixth spot on the FA Cup favourites’ list.

FA Cup 2024/25 Biggest Underdogs

After the FA Cup extra preliminary round 2024/25, some teams from the lower-tier leagues managed to enter this tournament. The FA Cup dates 2024/25 show that the qualification phase will last until mid-October.

Nevertheless, I checked the odds for the team from the aforementioned leagues, which had already qualified for this competition. So, I can now tell you that Grimsby is the biggest underdog to win the FA Cup this season.

Some other clubs that follow are Carlisle, Leyton Orient, Birmingham, Cardiff, Watford, and others. As many of you know, underdogs can surprise anyone. While this does not happen every season, we all know what the almighty Wigan did in 2013. The same goes for Southampton winning the FA Cup in 1976 as a major underdog.

The new season with the new 2024/25 Champions League format is about to begin. As every club will play against two teams from the four pots once, we’ll soon see some of the biggest derbies in European club football.

Wondering which 2024-25 Champions League clubs will bring us the biggest spectacle? I wanted to know the answer to the same question. So, I put the biggest titans face to face and realised how fun actually this season will be.

Top 2024-25 Champions League Duels (Rounds 1-4)

The Champions League table 2024/25 features 36 teams from all over Europe. The initial phase encompasses eight rounds, the first of which will begin on 17 September.

The first enormous clash that awaits us is the Milan vs. Liverpool duel. These two teams had unforgettable matches in 2006 and 2007. That’s not all, as the first round also features another English-Italian fixture (Man City vs. Inter). Both the Citizens and Nerazzurri won the title in their domestic leagues in the previous season.

Round two confronts Arsenal and PSG. One of the best English clubs will try to outshine the best team in France. Another big event here is the Bayer Leverkusen vs Milan faceoff.

Round three will feature an encounter between Real Madrid and Dortmund, just as in last season’s finals. Will BVB get its revenge? Barcelona, a team also seeking revenge, will face Bayern Munich. The Catalans lost their last six games to the Bavarians, and their will for this is obvious.

The fourth round may have the largest number of derbies. I say this because Liverpool will play against Leverkusen and Real Madrid will compete against Milan. The same goes for Inter playing versus Arsenal.

Craziest Champions League Fixtures 2024/25 (Rounds 5-8)

You may have noticed that I didn’t mention any teams that joined this tournament via the Champions League qualifiers 2024/25. This is because clashes such as Bayern Munich vs PSG and Liverpool vs Real Madrid are scheduled in Round 5.

It’s interesting to note that both matches include clubs that played against each other in the Champions League finals before. In 2018, Liverpool and Real Madrid had a faceoff in the finals, which ended in Los Blancos’ victory (3:1).

PSG and Bayern Munich fought for the title in 2020. The game was very tough, but the Bavarians eventually prevailed, scoring once and allowing no goals.

In Round 6, Leverkusen will play against the other club from Milano, Inter. Just as Leverkusen will do that, Borussia will face the second-best club from Spain, Barcelona. Finally, Juventus will face the English champions, Manchester City.

The situation for PSG is the same. In other words, the Parisians will have a lot of work to do, as they will also confront City, which is the number one favourite to win this 2024-25 Champions League.

The new seasons in the best European football club competitions will begin soon. These are some of the contests whose popularity seems never to drop. And how could it go down? I mean, the best teams from all of Europe get to play it.

That said, you may have questions about the best English clubs in Europe and their performance. I asked myself the same thing. So, I checked the three main European tournaments and what we can expect from the English teams there.

English Teams in the Champions League

First of all, it’s kind of surprising that there are not 5 English teams in Champions League, but 4 instead. Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Aston Villa will represent England in the CL.

The Premier League champions, Man City, are the number one favourites to win this competition. It’s more than obvious that we all expect a lot from Guardiola’s men. It may come as a surprise, but Arsenal is the third favourite in the entire tournament to lift the trophy. The Gunners even left teams like Bayern Munich behind on the list.

Liverpool is right behind Arsenal. This suggests that the English clubs in Europe (at least in the CL) are looked up to as big fish. Finally, Aston Villa will play in the Champions League for the first time. Villa positions itself somewhere above the middle of the list of teams most likely to win this tournament. As this is their first time, some experts think that they may play big but not really win the trophy.

English Clubs in Europe

English Clubs in Europa League

Teams from England that will compete in the Europa League are Man Utd and Tottenham. And guess what? These two teams are exactly the ones that bookies place at the very top when it comes to winning the Europa League.

Manchester United has had some harsh times in the previous months or even years. But while they don’t perform very well in the Premier League, they definitely do show great devotion in the European contests.

In addition, the Spurs will be their main rivals there. They even had a better season than United, ranking fifth, whereas the Red Devils ranked eighth. Tottenham proved that they can play big games without Harry Kane. Therefore, they will surely be in for winning the Europa League title this season.

English Teams in Europe Next Season – Conference League

Chelsea is the only team among all the English clubs in Europe in the Conference League for this season. As they ranked sixth and Man Utd won the FA Cup finals, the Blues were relegated to the Conference League.

The Enzo Maresca men should have played in the Europa League, but they are nevertheless the major contenders to the Conference League title. More specifically, the odds for the Blues to grab the trophy are pretty low. Even though their recent form hasn’t been great lately, Chelsea’s chances of achieving great results are big.

The newest Premier League season began on 16 August. The format and the general rules remained the same. So, we saw three teams (Luton, Sheffield, and Burnley) undergo relegation.

While everyone is talking about the favourites to win this competition this season, as well as the latest transfers, I came to think about the three new Premier League clubs. In other words, I was curious about how strong Ipswich, Leicester, and Southampton are and how far they can go.

Leicester

Leicester, the former champions from the season 2015/16, became part of the most elite English league again this season. They played in this league two seasons before. After suffering relegation, the Foxes wasted no time improving their form and their game.

The results came in soon. The Foxes won as many as 31 matches out of the 46 games that they played. They also scored 89 goals, allowing more than twice as few (41). All this put them in the first spot on the table with 97. Leicester also left the other two new clubs in Premier League, Southampton, and Ipswich behind.

As their manager, Marseca, left for Chelsea, the Foxes now have Cooper as their leader. While Cooper has a different coaching style, we all remember what happened eight years ago. Therefore, almost every other team took note of Liecester’s ability to make surprises.

Ipswich

Ipswich is the second among the new Premier League clubs for the season 2024/25. Just like the Foxes, the Tractor Boys showed a lot of devotion and skills. They won 28 matches during a 46-round season in the Championship. With only six defeats, Ipswich won a total of 96 points, which was only one less than Leicester.

Overall, the Tractor Boys ranked second and went straight to the Premier League. But unlike the Foxes, Ipswich were not part of the Premier League that often. Also, many experts did not anticipate that the Tractor Boys would even advance to the Premier League. That’s why lots of fans praise Kieran Mckenna’s skills.

Nevertheless, if we check what bookies say, we’ll see that they don’t expect too much from this team. In fact, Ipswich is one of the teams in the new Premier League table that has the highest chances of undergoing relegation again, according to the odds.

Southampton

An almost regular Premier League member, Southampton, did not take the third spot in the Championship seasons 2023/24, which led to an automatic promotion. Instead, the Saints took three points less than the third-ranked Leeds, which had 90 points in total.

Southampton won 26 games, which is somewhat close to the number of games Leeds and Ipswich won. On the other hand, the Saints drew nine and lost 11 games. This resulted in 87 points and taking fourth place on the table.

However, this didn’t stop Southampton from advancing to the Premier League after playing in the Championship playoffs. In the finals, the Saints faced none other than Leeds, which they beat by 1:0.

Even though Southampton proved to be hard to beat at times, bookies tell us that this club’s chances of going back to the Championship are similar to those of Ipswich. The Saints signed some young players and have a youthful squad. With them being the outsiders, the only thing remaining for us is to wait and see if they can do any better.

The France Ligue 1 transfer window is set to close, but all the clubs have been busy up till now. There is still a bit more time, but most of them have closed the books on their rosters and are getting ready to start the season.

There haven’t been many major blockbuster Ligue 1 transfers, and for the most part, PSG has stayed quiet. The biggest news is still Kylian Mbappé finally moving away from PSG and joining Real Madrid this summer. Nevertheless, we will recap all the major France Ligue 1 transfer news and concentrate on only the most important ones.

João Neves (PSG)

PSG has yet to replace Kylian Mbappé in the front. As things stand now, they probably will not. But they have enough of their current players to make up for the loss. For that reason, PSG has decided to strengthen their midfield and bring on another young future star in João Neves.

Neves is another product of the gamed Benfica academy and comes in on a reported fee of €59.92m. He is only 19 years old but made 33 appearances last season for the Eagles. He scored three and assisted two times and has impressed enough to be a part of the Portuguese 2024 Euro squad.

We will see how much of an impact he will have on PSG, but he remains one of the most expensive French Ligue 1 transfers this season.

Georges Mikautadze (Olympique Lyon)

Out of all Ligue 1 transfers, this one is the most impressive one. Georges Mikautadze comes back to his birthplace and will make his first appearance for the club he watched as a kid. Impressing at the Euro 2024 in Germany, Mikautadze was one of the star performers who greatly contributed to Georgia’s success.

He scored three goals and was a joint top scorer of the competition with five other players. Nevertheless, he featured on the scoresheet 13 times for Metz last season and provided three assists. Unfortunately, it was not enough to keep Les Grenats in Ligue 1, but he has done enough to advance his career and come back to the place where he was born.

Mason Greenwood (Olympique Marseille)

The most controversial transfer of Ligue 1 this season is Mason Greenwood coming to Olympique Marseille. Greenwood is a former Manchester United player and one of their most talented prospects. However, scandals and eventual suspension saw him loaned out to Getafe last season.

He has impressed enough to earn himself a new hefty transfer. But still, The Red Devils didn’t see him as a part of their team anymore. The deal worth €26.00m was finalised and he is now an Olympique Marseille player.

Now coached by Roberto De Zerbi, Les Olympiens could benefit a lot from Greenwood’s pace and talent. He could just end up being one of the better prospects this season and one of the Ligue 1 top transfers this year.
