Here are the highlights.

Group A

A.S. Roma – Young Boys: 3-1

Jean-Pierre Nsame scored the first goal in minute 34. However, Young Boys had the ball for only about a third of the match. Meanwhile, Roma equalized 10 minutes after the first goal and kicked in two more in the second half for good measure. Roma has 13 points and YB 7.

CFR Cluj – CSKA Sofia: 0-0

After the defeat by Roma and the lack of action in this match, CFR Cluj managed to squeeze out a draw that has kept them ahead of CSKA Sofia. Things are looking grim for Sofia with 3 losses and 2 draws.

Group B

Arsenal – Rapid Wien: 4-1

Arsenal is completely dominating Group B. Not only are they undefeated now with 15 points, but they also had no match where they scored fewer than 2 goals. Rapid best hope to defeat Molde with more than 2 goals if they are going to get to second place.

Molde – Dundalk: 3-1

Dundalk is continuing its morbid losing streak. At this point, they are Arsenal’s counterpart, with no wins and no points this season. So far, they have scored only 6 goals and received 15. Group B is ready to toss this team aside.

Group C

Slavia Praha – Hapoel Beer-Sheva: 3-0

This is what happens when the best of a group meets with the worst. No matter what happens, Slavia and Leverkusen will be going to the knockout stage. The only contribution to the game Hapoel made was in the form of Dudu Twito scoring against his own team near the end of the match. Furthermore, that was after 3 shots to the goal that went nowhere near it.

Nice – Leverkusen: 2-3

Nice tried their best to respond to every threat by Leverkusen. However, they just could not take control of the rhythm of the match. That is why a far superior opponent defeated them.

Group D

Rangers – Standard Liège: 3-2

Group D had an almost exact situation as Group C. Rangers are at the top of the group with 11 points. The Belgians got an extremely early lead and quickly responded to the retaliation, but Scott Arfield sealed their fate.

Benfica – Lech Poznan: 4-0

Benfica also cemented their spot in the knockout phase. With one goal in the first half, they decided to get serious and piled on three in the second half. Lech Poznan sits at the bottom with Standard.

Group E

Granada – PSV: 0-1

Granada may still be at the top of Group E. They got too relaxed in their match against PSV and could not penetrate their defenses. Both teams will be advancing.

AC Omonia – PAOK: 2-1

PAOK handed Omonia their first victory of the season, which did not help the team from Cyprus. However, it did knock down PAOK out of the competition.

Group F

AZ Alkmaar – Napoli: 1-1

Napoli may have approached this match too relaxed. Apart from the goal by Mertens in the 6th minute, they seriously jeopardized their no. 1 spot. Had Alkmaar scored just one more goal, they could have pushed out Real Sociedad. It wasn’t meant to be.

Real Sociedad – Rijeka: 2-2

Despite having the ball only for about a quarter of the game, Rijeka still managed to squeeze in a few attacks that led to a draw. Real Sociedad and Napoli are advancing to the knockout stage. Still, Rijeka can leave the competition with their head held high after this last match.

Group G

Zorya Luhansk – Leicester City: 1-0

The Men knew they had nothing to lose and nothing to gain from this match. Still, they pushed on and Allahyar Sayyadmanesh scored the only goal of the match. This is Leicester‘s first loss this season, but they are still at the top.

AEK Athens – Braga: 2-4

AEK Athens scored two goals for the entire match. On the other hand, Braga did the same thing in the first 10 minutes. Had the situation been different, Zorya may have advanced to the knockout stage.

Group H

Milan – Celtic: 4-2

Celtic gave their all, but Milan had already been in second place. They were cool, calm, and collected, not risking their advancement.

Lille – Sparta Prague: 2-1

Hats off to both teams. There was a chance Sparta could have won this one. They scored the first goal with about 20 minutes until the end. Lille then woke up and gave two quick ones. Lille and Milan are advancing.

Group I

Sivasspor – Villarreal: 0-1

Villareal is officially out of everyone’s reach with 13 points. Sivasspor hardly put up a fight.

Qarabag FK – Maccabi Tel-Aviv: 1-1

Qarabag won their first and only point of the season. Maccabi Tel-Aviv is moving on to the next stage.

Group J

Antwerp – Ludogorets: 3-1

Antwerp stands at the top of Group J. On the other hand, Ludogorets are now one of the three teams with no points this season.

LASK – Tottenham: 3-3

This was an impressive display by LASK. They fought desperately and managed to equalize in extra time. One more goal and it would have been them going to the knockout stage. The Spurs will be joining Antwerp and the others.

Group K

Feyenoord – Dinamo Zagreb: 0-2

Dinamo have proven why they deserve the top spot. They took only 4 shots at Feyenoord’s goal and two of them found their target. Dinamo’s position is now undisputed.

CSKA Moscow – Wolfsberg: 0-1

Wolfsberg overtook Feyenoord with their victory over Moscow, but they are still not safe. They need a victory or a draw to move on to the next stage.

Group L

Crvena Zvezda – Hoffenheim: 0-0

While very few people enjoy matches without goals, this one worked out perfectly for both teams. Both Crvena Zvezda and Hoffenheim are far enough from the other two teams to secure advancement.

Gent – Liberec: 1-2

Gent now joins Ludogorets and Dundalk as the only other team that did not win a single point. They had the ball for over two-thirds of the match and Liberec still won.

The post UEFA Europa League – Matchday 5 Highlights appeared first on Free-Football.TV.

UEFA Europa League – Matchday 4 Expectations

Jerome

Europa League News 2020/21

42 teams face off once more in 12 groups of 4 in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League. Here is what we can expect on Matchday 4, played on November 26.

Group A

Roma is currently at the top and they are facing CFR Cluj again. Considering their last meetup ended in 5-0 for Roma, we predict at least 2 goals and a victory for Roma. We also expect the Young Boys to defeat CSKA Sofia once more.

Group B

The match between Arsenal and Molde is most likely going to put the Gunners out of everyone’s reach. They already have a winning streak shared by only three other teams and this win will get them 12 points. Rapid Wien and Dundalk could go either way. Rapid’s only victory came from 4-3 against the Lillywhites.

Group C

Things are more dynamic and difficult to predict in this group. Slavia Praha is barely at the top and they are facing Nice. Leverkusen has a shot of reaching the top after their meetup with Hapoel Beer-Sheva.

Group D

Rangers are going to get a shot at rectifying the draw against Benfica on Thursday. They need to tone down their aggression and amp up their control. Still, it could be a loss for them this time. Standard Liège has not won a single point thus far, so there is no reason to believe things are going to change in their match against Lech Poznan.

Group E

Granada has an advantage against AC Omonia. They can’t risk a draw, especially as PAOK’s only victory against PSV is likely to repeat itself.

Group F

Napoli had the good fortune of meeting up against Rijeka. Rijeka has an impressive defense, but it did not help them in the least this season. AZ Alkmaar already defeated Real Sociedad once. They have to do it again to keep their top placement.

Group G

Braga has a shot of redeeming itself against Leicester. However, that is only what it is – a shot. Considering their last match ended with 4-0, it is far more likely that Leicester is going to leave others behind. Like Arsenal, Leicester has not lost a match yet here. AEK Athens is definitely going to beat Zorya Luhansk, which could put them in second place.

Group H

Lille faces off against AC Milan. Lille has a slight advantage, given the last clash of the two teams. However, Milan could turn things around. Sparta Prague should have no problems against Celtic.

Group I

Villarreal is the third team with an unbroken winning streak and they are likely going to keep it that way. Maccabi Tel Aviv lost by 4 goals earlier this month, so we may just see a replay of that match. Sivasspor already beat Qarabag once, but it is a question of whether they can do it again. We predict a draw.

Group J

Tottenham, Antwerp, and LASK are all tied with 6 points. However, the Spurs are facing Ludogorets. We predict this will keep them at the top. LASK could get to second place if they beat Antwerp again. They previously won with a man down, but the match could go either way.

Group K

Dinamo Zagreb may not stay at the top for long. Their opponents – Wolfsberg, are right behind them. So is Feyenoord, facing CSKA Moscow. There is no telling how the scoreboard is going to look after this.

Group L

Hoffenheim is the last team that has not lost a match this season. As they defeated Liberec with 5-0 and they are the opponents again, things seem predictable to say the least. Gent might beat Crvena Zvezda, though that might not move them away from the bottom of the group.

The post UEFA Europa League – Matchday 4 Expectations appeared first on Free-Football.TV.

Europa League 2020 Summary

Jerome

Europa League News 2020/21

Stopped in Their Tracks From the start, it was difficult to determine who the winners were going to be. Inter Milan was one of the top teams that managed to reach the final. However, the clear favorite, Manchester United, was not so fortunate. They handled LASK with relative ease. However, had it not been for Bruno Fernandes’s goal in overtime against FC Copenhagen, they would not have made it to the semifinals. That is where the story ended for them, as they faced Sevilla. Still, the Red Devils should be proud of how far they’ve come in the competition. They were taken out by the champions that specialized in Europa League.

Wolves suffered the same fate. After getting a rematch against Olympiacos in the second leg of the final 16 and winning with a single goal, they could not match Sevilla’s skills. Interestingly enough, they did bring their best to the game. Sevilla had the ball for more than three-quarters of game time. It wasn’t until minute 88 that Lucas Ocampos finally scored. Had Bounou not been such an impenetrable wall, we may have had a different final outcome. Perhaps Man United would have faced Inter.

Speaking of Inter Milan, they have had quite a season. They defeated Getafe with Romelu Lukaku and Christian Eriksen, followed by a clean-cut win over Leverkusen. Lukaku has been a bit of a wild card throughout the season. He helped Inter climb to the final. He was also responsible for their downfall. In many respects, Inter’s leading striker was a chaotic force of nature. He was the one who scored the final goal of the season – against his own team.

Sevilla

Sevilla is the winner of the Europa League this season. It has not been an easy feat as it was not clear whether the tournament rules would work in their favor. Nemanja Gudelj, the central mid-fielder, had to step down from the game against Roma, due to coronavirus. However, he recovered and played in the final.

The game against Roma went as well as it could have been expected. Prior to the round of 16, Roma was consistently on the losing side for most of their encounters with the Sevillistas Rojiblancos. Sevilla had a tough time against Wolves in the quarterfinals and even against United, where Fernandes, again, tried to save the day in the 9th minute, though it was not enough. Finally, they had to face Inter and the match was something else.

There is a bit of similarity between Diego Carlos and Romelu Lukaku in that they were both good enough for their respective teams to be among the best in the lineup. Both of them also had a fair share of blunders. Lukaku is an amazing scorer who missed relatively easy shots. Carlos, it seemed, could not pass a game without a yellow card and/or a penalty for the opposing team. In the end, Carlos’s overhead kick bouncing off of Lukaku ended the clash between Sevilla and Inter.

The post Europa League 2020 Summary appeared first on Free-Football.TV.

Europa League 2020: Inter Milan VS Sevilla Final Review

Jerome

Europa League News 2020/21

Trending News

The first European meeting between Sevilla and Inter allowed Rojiblancos to claim their sixth title in the Europa League. This may come as a bit of a surprise, as the teams’ composition has changed significantly since their last win in this competition.

Dynamic Start

Romelu Lukaku scored the first goal from an awarded penalty kick. Diego Carlos fouled him and received a yellow card. This gave Inter an early advantage in the match in the fifth minute. However, it took just 7 minutes more for Sevilla to match their opponents. Luuk de Jong was the star of Rojiblancos in this match, scoring once more in the 33rd minute with a header. Two minutes later, Diego Godín proved Inter was still in the game with a free kick. Again, this was the result of another foul by Carlos. Sevilla was very close to scoring another goal at the end of the first half with Banega and Ocampos.

Inter’s Downfall

The second half was not as aggressive and eventful as the first. Diego Carlos found a way to redeem himself in the 74th minute with an overhead kick. Lukaku tried to stop the ball, scoring against his own team. Unfortunately, that was the final nail in the coffin for Inter. Lukaku scored the first and the last goal of the Europa League Final. This is a somewhat different picture from his performance against Shakhtar Donetsk. Bono also deserves praise for his defense. He stopped an attack by Antonio Candreva near the end of the match. Even extra time was not enough for Inter Milan to change the outcome.

However, it is not the end of the world. Neither of the two teams needed this win for the Champions League next season. They have already managed to qualify in their own domestic leagues. This match was about the trophy.

The post Europa League 2020: Inter Milan VS Sevilla Final Review appeared first on Free-Football.TV.

Europa League 2020 Final: Inter Milan VS Sevilla Preview

Jerome

Europa League News 2020/21

The final match of the Europa League 2020 is going to take place tonight, Friday, August 21 at 21:00 CET. The RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne, Germany will be hosting the event. If the game remains level after 90 minutes, there will be two periods (15 minutes each) of extra time. After 120 minutes, if nothing changes, the game shall move on to the penalties.

Both Sevilla and Inter have won this competition several times in the past. This time, Sevilla knocked out Manchester United and Wolves on their way to the finals. Inter, however, could prove to be more than a challenge with its pair of strikers, Nicolo Barella and Romelu Lukaku. Diego Godín is going to be a part of their defense and he has faced Sevilla before.

The real thing for the morale of the team could also be the fact that they shattered Shakhtar Donetsk with 5-0. The two teams have not had the pleasure of playing against each other before. Sevilla is currently the favorite, but that could change at any point during the match.

The post Europa League 2020 Final: Inter Milan VS Sevilla Preview appeared first on Free-Football.TV.

Europa League 2020: Semi-Finals Review

Jerome

Europa League News 2020/21

Trending News

Sevilla vs Man Utd Sevilla are widely considered Europa League specialists and they have once again justified why this is the case. What sealed the fate of the Red Devils was Luuk de Jong in the 78th minute. While Sevilla’s offense was impressive, one of the heroes of the match was definitely Bono. He prevented United from scoring more than that single goal from the penalty kick in the first half. Yassine Bounou was a defense machine. Even with the additional 6 minutes, the Red Devils could only watch as Sevilla cemented their spot in the finals.

Shakhtar Donetsk vs Inter Milan

Shakhtar Donetsk, as it turned out, barely stood a chance against Inter Milan. Romelu Lukaku now boasts 33 goals in the season, two of which he scored against Shakhtar. The game itself had a slow start until Nicolò Barella set-up the ball for Lautaro Martínez, who scored the first goal in the first half. Shakhtar bounced back and had the possession of the ball for two-thirds of the first half. Unfortunately, they could simply not break Inter’s defense. They also had the ball for the most part of the second half, but it did not do them any good, as almost all of it was in their half. Danillo D’Ambrosio sealed Shakthtar’s fate with the final goal.

After obliterating their opponents, Inter is going to face Sevilla in the Europa League Final on Friday. The final is likely going to be action-packed, especially considering that this is the first time these two teams have ever met.

The post Europa League 2020: Semi-Finals Review appeared first on Free-Football.TV.

Europa League 2020: Inter Milan vs Shakhtar Donetsk Match Preview

Jerome

Europa League News 2020/21

Trending News

Inter Milan and Shakhtar Donetsk go face to face in the second semifinals matchup of the 2020 Europa League. Both teams enter with similar ambitions as they see their chances of reaching the finale and eventually winning a trophy.

Antonio Conte’s side managed to rally at the end of the season to capture the second spot in Serie A. But Conte was unhappy with the runner’s up position and grabbing the Europa League win might make him happy. They are playing exceptionally well since the restart and what is important for them is not allowing too many goals. What is also important for them is the Romelu Lukaku who has been their most prolific finisher.

On the other side, Shakhtar has been more than efficient. They scored seven goals in their last two outings in this year’s Europa League. They too have a star striker in the likes of Junior Moraes who has plagued goalkeepers not only in the Ukrainian league but all over Europe as well.

Perhaps a slight edge is given to Inter for making it through in this one but it is not going to be easy against the Brazilian powered Donetsk side.

The post Europa League 2020: Inter Milan vs Shakhtar Donetsk Match Preview appeared first on Free-Football.TV.

Europa League 2020: Sevilla vs Manchester United Match Preview

Jerome

Europa League News 2020/21

Trending News

Sevilla and Manchester United face off against each other in the first semifinals of the 2020 Europa League. Both teams have won this competition in the past, with Sevilla being the Europa League specialists having won it four times in the past with three successive titles under coach Unai Emery. But Manchester has won it the most recently in 2017 and is looking forward to finishing their successful season with a trophy.

Both clubs are going to play Champions League football next season as they had managed a spot through their domestic leagues.

Sevilla got to the semis with a late win over Wolves. They were not as impressive as one would hope them to be but they got the win. Julen Lopetegui’s men are on a 19-game unbeaten streak with seven wins out of their last eight games.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils also had a lackluster performance against FC Copenhagen to reach the quarterfinals. But it seems that they are ready as ever to make a run for the top prize. They already made the most of their season and the Europa League trophy would be a cherry on top.

The attack organized by Bruno Fernandes and spearheaded by Martial and Rashford is going to do their best to stir the game in their favor.

The post Europa League 2020: Sevilla vs Manchester United Match Preview appeared first on Free-Football.TV.

Europa League 2020: Day 2 Quarterfinals Match Reviews

Jerome

Europa League News 2020/21

Trending News

After the second day of quarterfinals 2020 Europa League matches, all semifinalists are known. Both Shakhtar and Seville made it through and continue the tournament with high hopes of going all the way.

The Ukrainian champion dispatched Basel with ease after a 4-1 victory. It was a magnificent display of football composed in the South American rhythm thanks to the Brazilian colony currently residing in Shakhtar Donetsk.

Junior Moraes opened up the scoreline once again after a Marlos assist in the 2nd minute of the game. Only 20 minutes later, Taison made it two after a deflection. No goals were seen until the closing part of the game. Alan Patrick scored from the penalty spot while Dodo raced for a quick goal of a counter-attack in the 88th minute of the game. The only thing Basel could do was to score a consolidation goal in the closing minutes of the game, courtesy of Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

This is going to be Shakhtar’s third Europa League semifinals as they last time they made it though was in 2016.

Wolverhampton saw their hopes of reaching the Europe League finale disappear after being eliminated by Seville by 1-0.

It was a very interesting game where we didn’t see a lot of opportunities nor goals. Both teams had almost equal possession of the ball. But Seville provides in the end, with heavy pressure, why they are the Europa League specialists.

Wolves had a big chance to take the lead after Adama Traore completed an 80-yard run before being brought down in the penalty box. Raul Jimenez stepped up and actually missed the penalty, something he wasn’t able to do in the last 18 tries.

This seemed to turn the tide in favor of Seville. Even though they had better chances they only managed to convert in the 88th minute of the game when Lucas Ocampos turned Ever Banega’s cross with a powerful header into the winning goal.

With this win, Seville keeps their hopes alive for their sixth Europa League trophy.

The post Europa League 2020: Day 2 Quarterfinals Match Reviews appeared first on Free-Football.TV.

Europa League 2020: Day 1 Quarterfinals Match Reviews

Jerome

Europa League News 2020/21

Trending News

We have our first semifinalists of the 2020 Europa League. Both Inter Milan and Manchester United are through as the two teams entered as favorites in both matchups.

Inter continued their impressive winning run and has defeated Bayer Leverkusen by 2-1. Inter looked much more impressive in this game as opposed to their previous game against Getafe. They were constantly attacking and were a threat during the whole match. So it was no surprise that they found themselves two up only after 20 minutes of play. Nicolo Barella scored the first while Romelu Lukaku scored his 31st goal in all competitions this season.

Bayer was able to score one back when Kai Havertz converted but it was all they could do. Inter continued attacking and it was a miracle that they didn’t convert at least one more from the 18 total shots they took in this game.

Meanwhile, Manchester United had to dig deep in order to eliminate FC Copenhagen. The Danish side proved to be a tough nut to crack and it took Manchester going to overtime to eliminate them.

The only goal of the game was scored thanks to Bruno Fernandes’s effort who once against converted a penalty. This is his 18th consecutive goal from the spot. It is a feat much harder to achieve than it actually looks, but Fernandes is one of the most précis players in Europe when it comes to penalties.

The Red Devils were the better side thought the entire match. They were constantly attacking and could’ve gotten more goals if there were not for Karl-Johan Johnsson. The Copenhagen goalkeeper had 13 saves in this match but couldn’t keep the penalty out. In the end, Manchester goes through but Copenhagen goes out on their shields.

The post Europa League 2020: Day 1 Quarterfinals Match Reviews appeared first on Free-Football.TV.
